Journey

mixed media works by Tali Margolin

I left my birthplace many years ago. Since then I've changed places, languages, and homes. In my recent mixed-media works I deal with the theme of immigration, home and memories, the loss of the familiar, and adjustment to new conditions. These works are hybrids of visually accurate representation and physical process of ripping, breaking, and constructing. I use packing materials which represent moving, yarn, and thread which represent connection and attachment to a place or an object, I incorporate knots as a reminder symbol, and ripped areas as a sign of time and faded memories. The completed artworks have a complex surface with many nuances and unique details that reveal themselves over time. The surface is sealed with a coating of acrylic medium for decay resistance. But metaphorically the process of applying layers of the medium represents my personal layered world where different places and cultures are connected to each other.

Tali Margolin is a visual artist working in acrylic, oil and mixed-media. In her artworks Margolin uses untraditional materials, bringing a wide range of associations and emotional and psychological moods.
