Cuff bracelets are a great introduction to many beginner silversmithing skills. Each student will work with a 1/2" by 6" sheet of silver to create a textured bracelet with a personalized shape and design. Options will include hammering a variety of textures, stamping patterns or letters, using rotary tools, piercing and sawing designs with the jewelers saw and/or applying patina. There are a lot of possibilities for expressive mark making in metal! Students will also learn how to form, file and finish metal to create a beautiful and comfortable piece of art jewelry. There is no soldering in this class.
Erica is a multi-passionate silversmith, SoulCollage® facilitator, and progressive art educator, based in Hunterdon County NJ. She earned her BA in art therapy from New Jersey City University in 2012, and studied mental health counseling and art therapy on the graduate level at Caldwell University. As an exhibiting silversmith, Erica is fascinated by the deep, personal connection people form with jewelry. These objects hold meaning, memory and even identity as they become interwoven into the lives of their wearers. In her work, she strives to honor the age-old practice of body adornment as a meaningful ritual of empowerment and transformation. She exhibits her silver work at various art markets, music and yoga festivals, and renaissance fairs all over the northeast USA.
